In Memory

Lucas Le Roux

Lucas Le Roux was a quiet, reserved pupil, but warm and helpful to those who got to know him.  He was a leading member of the school band, and was also an accomplished ballroom dancer.  He married Merle in 1965 and they had two children.  Lucas worked for Burroughs for most of his career.

Lucas was killed in a road accident in Standerton on 12th April 2000.

Richard Bell

Lucas le Roux was one of the four DHS boys who attended the Union Festival in Bloemfontein in 1960.  The others were Pat Dell, Leonard Carter & Richard Bell.  We had a wonderful - if freezing -  time there.  The most noteworthy event occurred when the white "peace" dove refused to fly, after Prime Minister H.F. Verwoerd threw it into the air at the end of his speech on 31 May.  Was this an omen ?

Lucas was a very quiet, private person, who seemed to prefer his own company, & none of us really got to know him, which was a pity.  I am sorry he didn't live to see the 21st Century...it would have been great to catch up with him at the reunion in June 2011.  Rest in Peace, Lucas.
