The great hills of the south country
They stand along the sea
And it's there walking the high woods
That I would wish to be
With the men that were boys when I was a boy
Walking along with me.

                            ANNOUNCEMENTS

17/8/2018 --  We have learned that our late classmate David Henderson-Smart, who emigrated to Australia in 1959, became the head boy of his high school there -- a remarkable achievment for a new arrival!  We have reproduced the relevant page from the 1962 Sydney school magazine for David's entry in the In Memory section.

4/8/2018  -- We are sorry to report that our classmate Garry Grant passed away suddenly in Johannesburg on 2 August.  Please see the entry for Garry in the In Memory section, and add any memories or reflections of your own.

12/7/2018 --  It's now eight years since this website was first launched. During that time it has received 93,826 visits. Classmates have used the message system to exchange 3501 messages. Of the 224 members on our class list, all but 9 have been found, or confirmed deceased.

25/4/2018 -- The school has issued an impressive marketing video that showcases the many facilities available at DHS today:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUEDdQHTCRQ&feature=youtu.be

11/4/2018  --  We have just learned that our 1958 head prefect,  John Lloyd, passed away in the UK on 7 May last year.  He was the last survivor of our four head prefects -- Ian Wallace passed in 1990, Mick Greenfield in 2014, and Jack Welch in 2016.

10/4/2018 --  We are sorry to report that our classmate John Dunlop passed away in Empangeni on 26 February.   Please see the entry for John in the In Memory section, and add any reflections or memories of your own.

28/6/2017 --  An expanded record of the circumstances of our teachers' demises has just been added to Tuck Shop Chit Chat, under the "Our Teachers! (Part One)" topic.  Have you looked at the Chit Chat feature lately?  There are over 80 different topics, with dozens of contributions from our classmates.  Please add some contributions to existing topics, or create whole new topics of your own!

25/6/2017 --  We are sorry to report that our classmate Martin (Mits) Morford passed away in Johannesburg on 18 June.  Please see the entry for Mits in the In Memory section, and add any comments or memories of your own.

16/9/2016 -- Nick Gray has produced an interesting photo of the DHS staff in 1952, with several of our former teachers looking rather more slender and callow than they did when we first met them, six years later!  This picture has been added under the  "Staff Photos" tab at left.

11/7/2016 -- Photographs of the revellers at our three recent reunion lunches are now posted under the new tab at left, "55 Year Reunions".

27/6/2016 -- The school headmaster, Leon Erasmus, has announced his resignation after less than four years in the position, in order to take up an appointment in the Cape.  He was highly regarded at the school and will be missed.  His resignation announcement appears in the "DHS Today" section on the left.

25/3/2016 -- Does anybody have a copy of the 4GB form photo of 1959?  it's the only one we are missing from our 1958-61 set opposite, so please send us a scan if you have one!

7/06/2015 --  As a result of Graham Bell's campaign, reported here in January 2014, the school has apologised for the serial sex assaults by the maths teacher and athletics coach Harold "Jiggs" Gray. The school statement is reproduced in the "DHS Today" section at left; and both the statement and a subsequent press release by Graham are available for discussion in Tuck Shop Chit Chat.
