Arthur Bruton

Arthur ("Archie")  Bruton joined our cohort in 5th form in 1960.  He was an amiable and good humoured classmate, always available for a schoolboy prank. On one occasion, for example, he concealed himself in the classroom cupboard on a dare for the entire period, but tumbled out in a heap on the floor a little too early, because the astonished teacher tarried before leaving the classroom.  "I was just looking for a book, sir",  He explained.

Arthur had a varied career that included plumbing and slaughtering chickens.   He died in Pietermaritzburg on 7 July 2005 from renal failure caused by chronic diabetes.
