In Memory

Michael Parker

Michael Parker was an easy-going and amiable classmate. He was a Blackmore's pupil, and was a boarder prefect and a school prefect in 1961.

Unfortunately we know very little about Michael's life after he left school.   We do know that he was married, and had a son.  We have established that he worked over the years in various sectors of the landscaping, mining, and construction industries.  He was employed by Greenwood Landscaping in Durban, by a coal mining enterprise in KZN, and by the major firm of Lephatswe and Roberts Construction in Johannesburg.  Beyond that, we have been unable to find any trace of Michael.  He has been on our "missing" list since the class website was founded in 2010.

We recently checked our missing members against the South African death registry and discovered that Michael passed away on 13 September 2014 in Gauteng.  We have no information about survivors or the cause of death.

That's "Pig" Parker - I remember him well in a vague general way. He was, as suggested, an amiable presence. You could always have a good-natured conversation with him. He gave himself no airs, and was a kind of 'authentic' person, nice to be around. I have a vague memory of a Bob Marley song that went something like, "One good thing about music, when you hear it, you feel okay", and that was how I felt about Parker. He could be quite funny too. I seem to remember him in Art classes and Biology, so we would have shared the best and the worst DHS had to offer.
