In Memory

Albert Meyer

Albert Meyer graduated from the University of Natal and married Sheila Clulow soon after, in 1967.  He worked in the chemical industry, rising rapidly until he became managing director of Abecol.

Albert died in Benoni on 7 November 1990 from a ruptured aortic aneurysm.  Please see classmates' words about Albert below.

As Albert's family lived in Durban North and my family home was off South Ridge Road, Albert used to regualarly come back to our home whilst we were at varsity together. He was always most appreciative of my mothers lunches and I remember him as being so bright and conscientious resulting in him sailing through Varsity. I was the opposite?? He met Shiela, his wife to be, whilst we were still at school and married soon after graduating. The staff at ABE fondly remembered him as being a most competent and fair leader.

Like Harvey Wannenberg, Albert Meyer had "star quality".  He was always immaculate in his dress, well-spoken & diplomatic.  His good looks made him popular with the ladies.  He was what we would call "a smooth guy".

As with most of my classmates, I didn't get to know Albert very well.  I suppose we were all too busy studying for "Monthly Orders", & with sporting & social activities, to liaise closely with one another.  This was a pity.  In fact, thanks to the class-of-1961 website, we probably know more about our form-mates now than we did then.

It is sad that so many of our peers have passed away.  I would have enjoyed chatting to Albert at our reunion in June 2011.
